| Action Gears Up for Ladbrokes Poker Million VII The popularity of poker grew in recent years from a number of factors. Naturally, the online poker world had the majority of the impact, however popular media also played a huge role.
Non-poker players who were suddenly faced with action-packed televised poker tournaments could not help but be drawn into the excitement of the game. Many people were won over by these series, including one of Europe’s longest running televised tournaments, the Ladbrokes Poker Million.
This year will see the start of the Ladbrokes Poker Million VII slightly earlier in the year, as online players begin in their bid to qualify for this exciting tournament. With a guaranteed $1 million up for grabs, there are very good reasons to make an effort to qualify! Daily multiple satellites are being run all the time online and players can pay as little as $1 to play in one of them. Winners of these satellites feed into daily and weekly finals and stand in line to win a super prize package valued at $21,000 in order to play in one of the twelve televised six-hand heats of the tournament.
For the first time this year, Ladbrokes Poker is adding an additional four semi-final seats, two of which will be played in two televised six-handed ‘second-chance’ tournaments by those players who were runners up in the twelve televised heats. The other two semi-final seats are up for grabs online during the time that the show is being televised between September and November 2008.
Players who are lucky enough to win their way into one of the twelve seat heats will meet some of the best players in the world, as once again Ladbrokes Poker is allowing professionals to buy their way in.
The Managing Director of Ladbrokes Poker said in a statement: "We're keen to build on the popularity of Ladbrokes Poker Million, knowing that it holds a special place in poker history. The changes we made last year allowing the cream of the worlds poker players to buy-in, was well received and we think the addition of four seats and the opportunity to get in on the action while the event is full flow is another interesting facet to the tournament that will be welcomed by our players. Ultimately, we want to ensure that the format remains fresh and exciting to all."
As stated, the guaranteed prize pool is $1 million, with Ladbrokes adding a whopping $500,000. The heats will be broadcast every Tuesday on Sky Sports 2, beginning September 9th and the finals of the tournament will be broadcast live in December.
