Biggest Pots - Losers and Winners Make Records Online

In September “patatino” had set the record for the largest pot in the history of online poker at $610,000.

That record is history many times over. In the high stakes, $500/$1,000 No Limit Hold’em RailHeaven and GusHeaven tables at Full Tilt Poker the record for the highest pot was shattered four times in 24 hours.

The protagonists in this no holds barred action were Tom “durrrr” Dwan, Phil Ivey, John Juanda and Di “Urindanger” Dang.

It was Dwan who set the ball rolling with a pot of $618,000. Dwan hit two pairs with his ace and nine of diamonds against LarsLuzak who was frankly hoping for a miracle. LarsLuzak lost almost $300K on the hand and gave Dwan the record pot.

If Dwan thought he would walk home with the record he thought wrong. He soon got into a tangle with Juanda, the latter fresh from his $1.6 million win at WSOPE Main Event. Dwan held pocket rockets and Juanda held pocket cowboys and the pot was worth $678,072. The river showed a king and Dwan was no longer the record holder. But fate can be cruel. If Dwan held the record for hours, Juanda held it for a few measly minutes. He lost it on the very next hand. Ivey beat Juanda for a $687,000 pot. That set up three records in the space of a few hours, something online poker has never seen before.

But Dwan was not giving up. The date changed but the night was still the same. The final hand of this epic saga was played out between Dwan and Dang. This time Dwan held the pocket cowboys and Dang the pocket rockets. Fate had smiled on pocket cowboys earlier in the night and Dwan’s hopes soared. But as each card on the board was a coffin in the nail for Dwan. The board was inconsequential and Dang took home the $723,941 pot. Not only was this the highest of in the history of online poker it was the first pot to cross the $700K mark.

If this was a night Dwan would like to forget October, so far, is a month he will cherish. It was like early Christmas and Santa had heaps of goodies for him. Till the end of September 2008 Dwan had made a million dollars playing online. Then he made a million in October itself. And then he made two million dollars in October. He was at $2.6 million a week back and it was expected that he would breach the $3 million mark before the end of the month. As things stand however he is marginally above the two million mark now. Despite being called a fish by Rozenkrantz and losing to him in the specially arranged challenged game, David Benyamine is at number two spot in the tear to date online winnings with over $2.2 million in his kitty. All this money has come from four big losers who are each over a million in the red.

“Elmariachimacho” heads the list with just over $2 million in losses. At second spot on the loser’s list is surprisingly Patrik Antonius. “patatino” the record holder for the largest pot is on the third place. And the last million dollar loser is “lady marmelade”, who is regarded as the punching bag of online poker.
