Eastgate Signs Up with Poker Royalty

Now that Peter Eastgate is the new WSOP champion and the youngest one at that he will be the talk of the town, at least till there is something new to talk about.

Now that Peter Eastgate is the new WSOP champion and the youngest one at that he will be the talk of the town, at least till there is something new to talk about. And many of the wisecracks are bound to refer to his age, or the lack of it. Pauly from the Tao of Poker set the ball rolling when he said, surely in jest, “Yep, that’s it. Peter Eastgate from Odense, Denmark is officially the biggest swinging dick in Las Vegas after winning the 2008 WSOP. That kid is definitely gonna get laid tonight.”

As usual, Michelle Lewis was more measured and mature in her assessment of the new champion. She said, “Both Eastgate and Demidov seem to have learned from previous winners how to not-look-like-an-ass-at-the-final-table, as both seemed to be humble.” Hopefully Eastgate will not part with his humility because there are enough of his predecessors who are giving the game a bad name. Leading the pack is the man whose record Eastgate has broken to become the youngest ever Main Event winner, none other than Phil Hellmuth. While there is no harm in aspiring to break another of Hellmuth’s record, that of 11 WSOP bracelets, there is no need to become a clone of Hellmuth while doing so. As an aside Michelle gave a perspective of the delay in the final table that only a woman can. She said, “The delay allowed players to review what they looked like on T.V., … and practice playing poker in front of a mirror before the final table.”

Back to Eastgate, Pokerati wrote that, “The Poker Royalty agents exchanged little smiley fist bumps upon Eastgate’s victory. Not sure what that means — but I gotta think a young online Scandi pro has got to be relatively marketable.” And he was. The news was soon out that he had signed up with Poker Royalty. The release from Poker Royalty said they would now be handling Eastgate’s affairs in the matters of “worldwide management and marketing representation across all major platforms, including media, sponsorship, licensing, commercial endorsements and appearances.” Looking at the growing European poker market Poker Royalty has opened up an office in Europe and Eastgate is bound to be their brand leader. Jim Erwood, Poker Royalty Director of European Operations said Eastgate was young, intelligent and fearless and therefore very marketable. On his part Eastgate said that “They [Poker Royalty] represent the biggest names in poker and I’m honored to have them working on my behalf.” Poker Royalty represents the “kings and queens of poker” including Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Patrik Antonius, Scotty Nguyen and Evelyn Ng. They also represent the best-known Danish player Gus Hansen. Eastgate can in due course look to endorsements like Milwaukee’s Best’s beer cans, Diet Pepsi and Black Velvet Canadian Whiskey, all of which have been enjoyed by poker players in the past through Poker Royalty.

Eastgate represented PokerStars in WSOP 2008, but apparently there was no long-term contract. Eastgate watchers are now busy guessing which online poker room will be chosen by this new champion.
