| Fulltilt.com for Sale: 7 Figure Asking Price MHKogan Group has retained Fulltilt.com Solutions (not the internet poker domain) and have decided to put it up for sale. Fulltilt.com is currently a product information management site which gets lots of accidental type-in traffic because of Full Tilt Poker.
The asking price the owners are expecting is in the 7 figure range due to the high traffic generating gaming site Full Tilt Poker has become. MHKogan says the domain gets roughly 60,000 unique visitors a month from customers expecting to find a poker site at Fulltilt.com unknowing that the real domain is Fulltiltpoker.com.
"At first we thought that the extra traffic was fun, but now the traffic has grown to a point of distraction and is utilizing resources that should be reserved for our customers and prospects" says Timothy Wallace, CEO of FullTilt Solutions.
In other words, they believe they can sell the domain for more than the business is generating.
MHKogan, the group who has retained Fulltilt Solutions might have wanted to do some more research before expecting 7 figures for the domain which we'll explain. Michael H. Kogan of MHKogan was one of the founders of Platinum Poker and also the President of Marketing for Doylesroom.com.
Let’s discuss the scenario for anyone realistically looking into purchasing the domain. Despite Mr. Kogan’s creditentials it doesn’t seem he knows much about how the use of typo brand domains actually work in the affiliate business.
If you were Full Tilt Poker would you allow an affiliate to purchase a similar type domain, typo, or whatever it may be and simply redirect it to an affiliate url? Absolutely not, the affiliate reaps the rewards and basically steals income from the poker site. This is why poker sites have terms against this in their affiliate agreement.
In most cases a poker room will either confiscate the domain or have you change the website to a site that doesn’t reflect the site, in this case, Full Tilt Poker. Why give them the domain? Because if not they have the right to confiscate all future affiliate income.
The only real possible buyers of this domain might be Full Tilt Poker but they might even say NO WAY. Again, people are looking for Full Tilt Poker. If they find a non-related business at Fulltilt.com they’ll just go to Google, search for Full Tilt and get directed to the poker site. Full Tilt Poker loses no traffic or income so why pay anything for this domain?
The last and final possible use of this domain is to get clearance by Full Tilt Poker to purchase the domain and place a Full tilt referral code page on it. This way, Full Tilt Poker has someone promoting their site and giving them an incentive to do deposit and play. This usually is the only reason poker rooms will let affiliates use their name brand in a domain.
Anyways, the domain auction will take place in November. Will they get the asking price? Highly unlikely.
