| Ladies Get their Due at World Poker Tour Someone in the industry has finally sat up and realized that women deserve an equal break when it comes to tournament play.
The World Poker Tour announced that it was revamping its offerings to female poker players and introducing an official WPT Ladies League and a No Limit Texas Hold ‘em circuit. The executive vice president of WPT Studios said in a statement:
“Women are a rising force in poker. By bringing a WPT ladies league and tour stops to top gaming destinations across the US
, we hope to support and perpetuate the evolution of the sport and recognition of the women who play."
Thanks to the Ladies League, women poker players from every end of the gaming sphere – from amateurs to professionals – will have a chance to pitch their skills against other players at their own level. One of the main advantages of the WPTL is that players do not have to invest five-figure amounts to buy their way into the tournaments. All buy-ins for ladies events will range between $300 and $1,500.
The ladies tournament will take place in several major stops across the US
. Winners at each stop will be awarded a WPT title and seat in the championships. The tournament will debut at Borgato Hotel Casino and Spa in
Atlantic City, New Jersey on January 20th, with a $300 buy in fee.
The next stop will be on February 2 and 3 in the Commerce Hotel in
Los Angeles, California as a joint venture with the Ladies Poker Association. The buy-in fee for this event will be $970. On March 16th, a $300 buy in event will be held at Bay 101,
San Jose, California as a joint venture with LIPS (the Ladies International Poker Series). On March 29th, the tournament will make its penultimate stop in
Mashantucket, CT at Foxwoods Resort and Casino with a $500 buy in.
The final stop of the WPT Ladies circuit will culminate with a $1500 buy in event on April 13 and 14th, with the final table playing on April 25th.
The tour has partnered with a grassroots organization that promotes breast cancer awareness among communities in the country. Funds from the event will be donated to Komen for the Cure and participants will be able to make donations at each tournament stop.
