| More Hypocrisy Arises from UIGEA We all know by now that Senator Kyl, one of the Senators behind the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, is considered a hypocrite for wanting to block online gaming transactions in the US unless it’s for horse racing. No we’re not going to beat a dead horse, no pun intended. Even more hypocrisy was uncovered about the Senator. Back in 2002, Senator Kyl co-sponsored a bill for the exact opposite of what he is currently trying to accomplish. I think the very first sentence of this previously introduced bill sums it up. In direct quotes, a bill S. 3093 was introduced by Kyl to develop and deploy technologies to defeat Internet jamming and censorship.
Because all bills tend to get quite long and tedious to read we decided to pick out some juicy quotes directly from the Bill 3093. Keep in mind this is coming from the same guy who is now feudally trying to censor the internet and online gaming in the USA.
“This legislation aims to foster the development and deployment of technologies to defeat state-sponsored Internet jamming and censorship, and in turn, to help unleash the potential of the Internet to promote the causes of freedom and democracy worldwide.”
Doesn't sound like the Senator Kyl we've come to know today does it?
“So once again, governments that fear freedom are trying to rein in the technology's potential.”
In the quote above he’s talking of China and how they block access to websites. So does our government now fear Freedom Mr. Kyl? He then mentions Cuba, Vietnam, and Burma along side those countries but it looks like the United States
should now be added.
The bill then ends with such a delicately placed paragraph that sums up exactly what all online poker players and gamblers have been saying all along. It seems these past couple years Senator Kyl forgot what the US was all about.
“The Internet is too important a communications medium, and its potential as a force for freedom and democracy is too great, to make a second-rate effort in this area. That is why Senator Kyl and I are introducing the Global Internet Freedom Act today. It is time for the U.S. Government to make a serious commitment to support technology that can help keep the Internet open, available, and free of political censorship for people all over the world.”
Amen to that Mr. Kyl. The people just want to know what happened (or who) caused your beliefs to turn a full 360 with your urgency to pass internet censorship on internet gaming?
