Get your mind out of the gutter, we know what you're thining. Gus Hansen is participating in an event in which all the other contestants are female.

He was not playing in drag as famous poker author John Vorhaus recently did in a ladies tournament under the alias Cinnamon Shag.

In fact he was there because of his good manly looks. 

This is the exotic set up of this week’s Poker After Dark event titled “Gus and Ladies”. The six-handed games will feature Hansen with five lovely ladies from the world of poker. The question being asked is “Why Gus Hansen?” In 2004 People Magazine put him in the list of the top 50 sexiest men. However Jenny Woo of Gambling911did not put him in her list of the ten sexiest poker players. It was a mixed gender list that had four women.

The male players in that list were David Williams, Patrik Antonius, Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson. Coming back to Hansen, his poker abilities are not in doubt. The Great Dane has for WPT titles, but no WSOP bracelets, to show for it. The most compelling reason could be that Poker After Dark has a soft spot for him because he was the winner of the first event of the first season of the show.

So who are the ladies Hansen will be playing against? Top of the list is Clonie Gowen – hot from her win in Mission Impossible and hot otherwise. Clonie won the previous episode of Poker After Dark, which proved to be mission impossible for Mike Matusow. Clonie is known to wear two things at the poker tables. One is her trademark cowboy hat and the other her smile that kills. 

Joanne Jishune Liu, “JJ”, is the next contender Hansen must account for. JJ hails from Taiwan and is known for her exotic outfits and her deep study of Chinese gambling games. She has demonstrated that she can play poker as well through her successes at both WPT and WSOP events. Like JJ, Beth Shak is also into outfits but she designs them for others to wear. She wears several other hats that include being the wife of poker pro Dan Shak, the mother of five children, the champion of several charities and a poker player of repute.

Vanessa Rousso is known as the Lady Maverick of poker. She is young, erudite and accomplished. And since outfits form a part of this item it must be pointed out that Vanessa once participated in a tournament dressed only in a bathrobe. The fifth lady that Hansen has to outperform is Erica Schoenberg, also known as the Poker Babe. Erica has been in the news recently for all the wrong reasons. She hit out strongly to defend boyfriend David Benyamine’s reputation and her boyfriend let her down by losing to a mere “college student”. Erica ended up with egg on her face. Not that she will let it bother her when she is at the tables with Hansen. 

Two days of the proceedings are over but if you can stay awake till 2.00 am then it is better to watch the rest live on Poker After Dark rather than read about it later.
