Mac users get wakeup call after worms attack their systems.

This week was a little shady for Mac users.  Rumors were floating around that the first Mac virus had arrived.  It turns out to be nothing more than a worm.

The worm that was infecting Macs was in a file called “latestpics.tgz.  This file was supposed to show Mac users the latest pictures of the Mac OS Leopard.  There were no pictures and it was just another worm created by a hack.  If the users downloaded and decompressed the file then entered a password then the worm was put in place.

The worm was infecting local applications through iChat.  While this worm didn’t cause too much damage it was certainly a wake up call to Apple users.  Mac users say they are proud of their Anti-virus machines and that is one reason a lot of users purchase them.

Some Mac users are saying it is only time before the first virus does actually come.  The reason for these viruses and worms to occur is because hackers want to prove themselves.  With all the Apple users gloating about how their Macs are virus free some say this is just like inviting an attack.
