| Update on Washington State Gambling Ban The law to stop online poker in Washington State draws closer. The start date of this new law begins June 7th on Wednesday. Chiristin Gregoire, the governor, signed the bill heard around the poker world in March for it to take place in less than 4 days from now. The bill was introduced by Senator Margarita Prenice. This new law will make it a felony to play online poker and players will be fined up to $10,000.
After the bill was originally passed online poker forums and enthusiasts shared their thoughts on what this bill was actually going to do.
“The ban is a joke and there is no way to enforce it. It might scare some people from playing online in
Washington but I don’t see them enforcing it,” says one Washington State Party Poker player.
“I agree that poker can cause some problems in people but so do alcohol, prescription drugs, and even tobacco. If Washington didn’t have land based casinos I might actually listen to the law but to me, it’s just political scandals,” said a former citizen of the
Evergreen
State.
It seems to be consensus among online poker players that this is a feudal attempt by the government to scare citizens into non-online gambling means. In the Washingtonvotes.org website where the official law was posted on the Net over 300 comments were made and no more than a handful were for the bill. To put it blunt
Washington
State citizens are outraged.
