2009 November 7 Final Table WSOP Excitement

The summer months have flown by unbelievably fast and November is already upon us. With this month comes the most exciting event in the poker calendar – the Final Table of the World Series of Poker that will be played out on November 7th.

Those who made the final table – known in poker circles as the November Nine – have already celebrated their good fortune simply for making it this far in the competition. One of the main reasons is that each and every one of them has already guaranteed themselves at least $1 million in prize money. All eyes, however, will be on the massive first prize that the overall winner of the World Series of Poker Final Table event will take home – $8.5 million in cool, hard cash!

The poker world is divided in opinion about who will take the first prize. Some say Darvin Moon, who came into the November Nine on an incredibly lucky streak that saw him attract hand after hand of quality cards on his way up to this position. This has led to Moon coming in to the Final Table with a huge chip lead – 58 million in total – which should work to his advantage, even if his momentous luck does run out along the way.

Moon’s poker chip lead is so huge that it is twice as much as his nearest rival, Eric Buchanan.

The other firm favorite to win the competition is Phil Ivey, undisputed champion of the poker world and no doubt leagues above anybody else at the table in terms of talent.

Ivey has considerably less chips than Moon or Buchanan – 9.7 million in all – but commentators are positive that what Ivey lacks in chip quantities won’t be felt thanks to his amazing gaming ability.

In the meantime, sportsbetting sites are reporting that if Ivey wins in the Main Event, they could very well find themselves at a loss of millions of dollars. Party Bets issued a statement saying: “Ivey will be a terrible result for us and we think that the industry as a whole will have massive liabilities. A big name on the final table of the WSOP is always bad news for bookmakers and in fairness they don’t come much bigger than Ivey. We have our fingers crossed that he doesn’t pull off a remarkable comeback. The bottom line is that for us it has to be anybody apart from Ivey.”
