440 LB Man Kicked of Tables for Bad Smell
Written by Tom L | Friday, August 1st, 2008
A man by the name of Michael Wax was evicted from the tables because of foul body odor, that’s right he stunk so bad he was asked to leave.
One would not imagine that such a thing could take place at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City but it did.
Michael Wax owns a limousine company and is a frequent player at the casino. On that day the 440 pound poker player had been at the tables for 17 hours without a break. He realized that he was stinking but did not have the time or inclination to take a break and clean up. When he took a trip to the loo the poker room manager followed him and told him that the other players were complaining about his body odor. Unperturbed, Wax tried to take his seat again but was prevented from doing so. In front of the other players, the poker manager pointed out that Wax’s body odor was disturbing them and asked him to leave. Being a regular at the casino Wax felt that he was entitled to a free room so that he could shower and get rid of the stink, but his request was turned down. And Wax had to leave in disgrace.
Wax holds no grudge against his opponents at the table who complained of his body odor. He is the first one to realize that players cannot think what to do with their pocket jacks when there is a stink around. But he is livid with the casino.
He expected better treatment from them. Wax is not taking things lying down. He has filed a complaint about the shabby treatment meted out to him with the Casino Control Commission. The crux of his complaint is that the casino management erred in raising the issue in front of the other players.
A commission spokesperson said that the complaint would be reviewed to determine if any state gambling laws or regulations were violated by the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa. Any other person would have discreetly started looking for another casino. However by now the stink about his stink is all over the place and Wax will hace to face stares and upturned noses wherever he plays. And he likes the Borgata so he is waiting for an apology from the casino management.
The casino management is as diplomatic as expected to be. Dave Coskey, a spokesman for the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, refused to comment on matters involving their customers citing company policy.
This is not the first time body odor has figured at the poker tables. Poker fans will remember the ruckus Crazy Brit Barry Paskin created during WSOP 2005 when he was told by the players at his table to change his shirt because it stank. Paskin went ballistic and retorted, “You guys are being rude and discriminatory. Show me where there’s a rule that you can’t smell at the table.” He added that this was his luck shirt and that his wife loved it when he smelled like that. So he took of his shirt and wore it backwards but the stink remained. Ultimately the tournament director forced him to change his shirt. The stink was gone but so was Paskin. He crashed out of the event.
