Another Delaware Casino Introduces Poker Games

One month after the Harrington Raceway and Casino in Delaware started offering table games such as poker to its customers, a second location has done the same. Delaware Park became the state’s second casino to offer players a wide range of games that include poker, roulette, blackjack and craps, over and above the traditional slot games that were offered until now.
According to state officials, the introduction of table games to Delaware will generate around $40 million in tax dollars, making for a lucrative decision by state lawmakers. It is hoped that by introducing poker and other table games to state casinos, these establishments will be able to remain competitive in the industry.
The states neighboring Delaware have been heavily involved in making changes to their own gambling legislation, such as the introduction of poker games at Pennsylvania casinos (expected to kick off this summer) and new slot casinos in Maryland, in a bid to keep up with rival states.
Delaware Park is proud of the fact that it is now going ‘all in’ when it comes to gambling activities for its customers. The President of the casino, Bill Fasy, said that while the state may not be the gambling capital of the Northeast, the fact that its casinos now offer table games makes it a worthy competitor.
“The market is not that large, but I do believe it strategically helps us to compete with Pennsylvania right now and the opening in Maryland in the fall,” he said.
Speaking to critics, the Director of the Delaware State Lottery, Wayne Lemons said that the introduction of poker spelled good things for the economy.
“When we first put slots here, many people thought that would create problems,” he said. “It has not, and I don’t think table games will be any different.”
