Armed Robbers Interrupt Christmas Poker Game

It was definitely a poker get together that a group of friends will remember for a long time – and not necessarily all the good stuff!

An invitations-only private poker party was disrupted over the Christmas weekend after armed robbers broke into the room and stole valuables and cash from all the participants.

The frightening incident happened in SE Portland on Sunday after three masked men entered a home and held players at gun point as they helped themselves to the belongings.

According to one of the victims, there were around 18 players in the room, the majority of them friends who meet regularly to play poker together.

He recalled that when the robbers first burst into the room, many thought that it was some sort of Christmas inspired prank. However, they soon realized that these guys meant business.

“They were all wearing black and had masks covering their faces,” said one of the poker players. “One of them hit me in the back with a shotgun until I was flat on the floor.”

Another victim said that the men “roughed some of us up” before patting everyone down and stealing money, jewelry, credit cards and cell phones.

Just before leaving the scene of the crime, the victims were sprayed with pepper spray.

As soon as they left, the police and paramedics were called, although nobody was seriously injured.

“I’m going to stick to the safety of bricks and mortar casinos when I play cards from now on,” said an anonymous player.

The police are now searching for the three men who entered the home at around 4 am on Sunday night near Southeast 114th Avenue and Holgate Street, although they have not yet released any description of the robbers.

They have requested that anyone who has any knowledge of the crime to contact them.
