Australian Police Taunted by Poker Playing Inmate

An escaped prisoner from Australia took his love for poker a bit too far by taunting the police while on the run. Justin Grant was being escorted to a nearby hospital from a Townville Prison after suffering a hand injury and decided to use the opportunity to make a run for it.

Wearing standard prison garb and handcuffs, 21 year old Grant managed to slip away from the accompanying officers and went underground. However, not satisfied to have his freedom back, Grant decided to play a cat and mouse game with the authorities by posting frequent Facebook status updates.

The police, who were keeping a sharp eye on Grant’s Facebook portfolio, were staggered to see the smart alec post an invitation for a poker game to his friends via the social networking site.

He also taunted the authorities by writing in (broken) English: “Ha u watch ile have to hand myself in before they cach me”.

Fortunately for the police and the general public, Grant’s desire to log every move while he was on the run eventually led to his arrest. He had to admit defeat when he was surrounded in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant in the same town that he escaped from.

Many are of the opinion that Grant knew that he was going to eventually be arrested and was simply having some fun with the authorities before he went back to the slammer.

Another theory is that it wasn’t even Grant who issued the poker invite or updated his status on a regular basis – but someone else who knew him and was simply having some fun himself until the prisoner was caught.
