Poker table automation provider PokerTek signs deal with Carnival Cruise.
PokerTek has made arrangements and signed contracts to be the exclusive provider of the computerized poker tables on their cruises. The poker tables do not have need of a dealer, poker chips, or real cards.
Carnival Cruise will use PokerTek’s tables on over 21 ships with more on the way. The tables are currently in use at Hollywood and Tampa, Florida casinos.
Before papers were signed the products went into testing on the Carnival Victory Ship. The products were such a success and a big hit among customers that deals were made between cruise ships and the poker table company.
The tables called “PokerPro” tables are in use at one land based casino in California. The Hollywood Park Casino has agreed to take the tables for a trial run for 90 days.
In the middle of 2006 PokerTek was named the most innovative product of the year during the gaming technology summit convention.
The design of the table was created to increase hands per hour while increasing casino revenues by cutting dealer costs.
Players who hear of PokerTek tables seem to be skeptical at first but once they see how user friendly the tables are designed emotions tend to change. There will always be the players who prefer the feel of chips in their fingers and the ruffling of a deck of cards.
PokerTek is a publicly traded company and full financial information can be found at Pokertek.com along with product descriptions.
