Banks and ICBA Speak Out Against Poker Ban

Over 17,000 banks rise up and speak against the law to ban internet poker through the ICBA.

Banks are opposing the bill which Congress will vote on in the upcoming fall months. Banks have reason for concern because if the bill passes it will be their duty and liability to stop citizens from making these transactions.

The banks say that it will be extremely hard and expensive to track and enforce the law. Credit card payments can be easily tracked but other forms such as online checks are not easily identified. If these checks slip through the cracks the banks will be considered criminals right along side the gambler.

The tactic that banks seem to be using to put pressure on Congress to not go forward with the ban in very political. The banks have stated that this poker ban would put pressure on the security risks of the.

Funds and resources are currently being used to stop terrorist financial activity and if the ban goes through the banks would have to devote their resources else where (babysitting poker players).

All of these sentiments were expressed directly to Congress in a letter composed by the ICBA which has 5000 members and 17,000 banks on their side. The issues were expressed prior to the House of Representatives voting on the bill. While the bill passed in the House the ICBA is hoping to make a stronger stand in Congress this time around.

For now poker players are waiting and trying not to think about it. Many players have begun to forget about the bill as if it didn’t exist. This might come back to bite them in the butt. Poker players seem confident that this ridiculous bill will get tossed in the trash.
