Biggest Winners in 09 and Most Site Traffic

The first quarter of 2009 is over and it is time to take stock of the trends in online poker. The questions to answer are whether the online poker industry has been hit by the financial slowdown and who are the players making waves in online poker. MarketPulse tracks over 20 million hands per month from all major online poker rooms and their statistics will provide the answers to the questions posed.
PokerStars continues to lead the way with an average daily traffic of around 25,000 players this year, the continued leader in US poker sites. Compared to this the average for the last 12 months was a little over 18,000 players per day.
The next online poker room is Full Tilt Poker. The average daily traffic of about 11,000 players is less than half of the traffic at PokerStars. The average for the last 12 months was a little over 8,500 players per day.
At third position is Titan Poker with an average daily traffic of 6,000 players in the first quarter of 2009. The average traffic for the last 12 months was about 5,500 players per day. PokerStars has shown an increase of almost 40%, Full Tilt Poker has shown an increase of almost 30% and Titan Poker has shown an increase of about 10%. The answer to the first question is clear. Online poker is thriving no matter what grave problems some other industries are facing.
Whereas the volume has remained with PokerStars, the value has remained with Full Tilt Poker. The 100 largest pots during this quarter were all played at Full Tilt Poker. The favored games were Pot Limit Omaha and No Limit Hold’em.
The largest pot in 2009 so far occurred on the 4th of March in a Pot Limit Omaha game. durrrr beat Ziigmund for $593,935. For comparison the 100th largest pot was for $240,000. The players involved in the 10 biggest pots were durrrr, Ziigmund, Phil Ivey, LarsLuzak and Patrik Antonius.
The most interesting statistics pertain to who were the big winners and who were the big losers. Unfortunately MarketPulse collates this data only for Hold’em games while the action has shifted to Omaha. Hence the results are not true. LarsLusak leads the winners list with $850,291 and Phil Ivey leads the losers with a loss of $689,204.
Meanwhile the action between durrrr and Patrik Antonius has picked up in the Durrrr Challenge. 7,068 out of the 50,000 hands have been played over 10 sessions. Antonius is leading with a paltry amount of $23,467. This one, if completed will go to the wire.
