Breaking the Records at Poker Stars

Online poker site breaks record for most amount of players seated at one time breaking Party Poker’s old record.
This US accepted site, PokerStars, and its players feel the game has just begun despite the gambling laws passed over a year ago.
This high traffic week is being attributed to a couple of things including a known peak time which proceeds Christmas and usually ends after New Years. That along with agressive Poker stars marketing by affiliates in both US and worldwide countries is what produced this enormous increase in traffic.
The poker-hysteria that dominated the years preceding the anti-gambling laws in the US dropped significantly in October 2006. Many popular poker rooms were forced to close their doors to US players after the country’s banking institutions were suddenly not allowed to honor financial transactions between gambling operators and their US players.
While the entire gambling industry felt the impact of what later became known as the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, the poker sector felt it hardest, as poker room after poker room left the local scene in search of other markets.
It is only in recent months that the poker industry has started to show a comeback, as players begin to flock back in a bid to rediscover all that they missed from the Golden Age of poker.
Online poker rooms report more activity, there is more hype surrounding the 2008 World Series of Poker event than last year, and the new gambling laws in the UK have allowed exciting new elements to enter the market.
One of the surest signs of a recovering industry is by the number of consumers it manages to attract. The latest news by Poker Scout, a company that tracks traffic at online casinos and poker card rooms, is definitely enough to make any poker fan smile: PokerStars, home to one of the world’s largest online poker tournaments, has broken the all-time record of simultaneous real money ring game players. Poker Scout reported that more than 20,000 players were tracked simultaneously on the site, making it the first time in history that such a number has been reached, even in pre-UIGEA days.
Ironically, it seems that PokerStars’ success is actually due to the UIGEA and its consequences. Before the law was passed, the leading poker room in the history, Party Poker held the record for real money players at just under 17,000. With the passing of the act, however, Party Poker closed its doors to US players, while PokerStars continued accepting them. It is because of this fact alone that more and more players are attracted to the site and it explains the influx in traffic and the new industry record.
PokerStars, with its Dream Team of professional players, including 2003 WSOP champion, Chris Moneymaker, 2004 winner, Greg Raymer and 2005 winner, Joe Hachem, has now grabbed top position in the list of poker rooms serving the US and dominates player traffic in the region.
