Canadian Gambling Jurisdiction Signs Agreement with Antigua

Tired of being ignored by the Canadian provincial government as a legitimate gambling jurisdiction, the Kahnawake Gaming Commission has signed a memorandum of understanding with Antigua and Barbuda’s Financial Services Regulatory Commission.

The agreement is part of Kahnawake’s efforts to join sides with regulated licensing regimes. The inter-jurisdictional agreement essentially establishes a relationship between the two entities, allowing them certain practices within one another’s jurisdictions.

For example, the holder of a primary license in one jurisdiction can apply for a unique inter-jurisdictional authorization within the other area. The holder of this authorization will be allowed to be hosted in either jurisdiction, and the one that issued the primary license will be able to supervise and regulate activities in both jurisdictions.

Today, the Kahnawake Gaming Commission certifies a number of top online poker and online gambling sites, including 188 Limited, 24Poker, Action Poker, Poker in Canada, Unibet, jbetpoker, CanBetPoker, AspinallsPoker, 7SultansPoker, AztecRichesPoker, VegasPokerCasino and plenty more.

The Commission licenses and regulates various types of interactive gaming, including casino, poker and sportsbook sites, pursuant to its Regulations Concerning Interactive Gaming. Its Regulations Concern Poker Rooms licenses and regulates territorial poker rooms that are located within the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawake.

According to the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, the agreement with Antigua is meant to provide “operators an unprecedented degree of flexibility for their licensing and hosting needs while respecting the independence and international obligations of each jurisdiction.”

The two sides signed on the memorandum which is expected to take effect in the fall of this year, meaning that both sides have time to amend their own regulations and inform their licensees.

The memorandum will not allow Kahnawake licensed operators to enjoy the status afforded Antigua regulated operators to offer their services in the United Kingdom, as part of Antigua’s presence on the UK Gambling Commission’s ‘white list’.
