Chuck E. Cheese Being Sued over Kids’ “Gambling” Games

The All American pizza chain so popular with kids in the US is being sued by a San Diego woman, who claims – bizarrely – that illegal gambling is taking place under the restaurant’s roof. The mother-of-two said in her lawsuit that the games in the kids room at Chuck E. Cheese are games of chance and therefore not lawful in the state of California where she resides. “Many games found at Chuck E. Cheese’s restaurants are illegal gambling devices that require little or no skill and are predominantly games of chance, much like a roulette wheel,” the lawsuit apparently reads.

The woman has an issue with the flashing lights and bright colors that many of the gaming machines carry, saying that they look like slot machines. Denise Keller’s attorney, Eric Benink told a local newspaper that there was “no fun involved in the game other than an opportunity to win a prize. “ He said that it was just “pure random luck in terms of spinning out a result.”

“That, we believe, is a slot machine, as California penal code spells out,” he said.

It should be remembered that top prize for these “slot machines” is a stuffed animal….

Ms. Keller wants Chuck E. Cheese to pay for its ‘sins’. Not only does she want restitution to the tune of millions of dollars, she also wants an injunction preventing the chain from offering the games to other kids in the future.

Chuck E. Cheese refused to react, saying that its policy was not to make a statement on pending litigation.
