Daniel Cates has been named as the top earner in the online poker arena for the year 2010, by High Stakes DB.com.
Daniel “Jungleman” Cates appears to have made quite a splash on the online poker scene in the past year. Although he may have been relatively unknown in the online poker world at the beginning of the year, Daniel Cates seems to have ensured that for him, 2010 was a year to remember. According to High Stakes DB.com, a large high stakes poker website, 20 year old Daniel Cates completed the year with massive poker winnings of more than $4.9m. This made him the highest earner for 2010 among a host of other high stakes Internet poker players.
Daniel Cates seems to concentrate his poker gaming on Pot Limit Omaha and NLHE. Following a fairly consistent year his total yearly earnings could actually have been even higher as they hit the highest point in early December of $5.3m. Even though the rest of December may not have turned out quite as he would have wished he still finished top of the High Stakes DB.com leader board.
There was a big difference in earnings between first and second place. Other big earners in the online poker games in 2010 include Andreas Torbergsen, Tom Dwan and Phil Ivey. Torbergsen completed the year with approximate earnings of $3.7m that was mainly due to gaming at Pot Limit Omaha. Tom Dwan finished the year with $3.6m following many ups and downs. Phil Ivey sits in 4th place in the same leader board of high stakes poker earnings with an impressive total of $3m from online gaming at different online poker pursuits during the year.
