Delaware Puts Table Games to the Test

The state of Delaware is test driving the idea of table games such as poker at one of its three casinos, in a bid to see how the concept takes off with the general public.

During the course of this week, the Harrington Raceway and Casino will be home to exciting table games such as poker, blackjack and craps (Monday until Thursday from 2 pm to 10 pm). If all goes well, the casino – considered the smallest of the three in the state – will start officially rolling out table games in time to meet the demand it expects for the Memorial Weekend.

“We’re extremely excited to have this happening on our property, being the first in the state of Delaware,” said the Chief Executive Officer of Harrington Casino, Patti Key.

The test run has meant that a low limit has been placed at the tables, with players being able to wager a maximum of $25. This means that the casino can see just where changes need to be made, all the while allowing the table games to run for real money. The idea is to show state officials that the casino is more than prepared to offer these games it is public.

“We’re ready,” reassured Key. “We still have a few snafus we’re hitting, but that’s what this trial time’s for. Overall I think we’re doing very well as far as getting things up and running.”

By introducing table games such as poker, Delaware takes a further step ahead of the tough competition it faces with neighboring states such as Maryland, where there has still been no concrete approval for these types of games. Delaware even stays ahead of Pennsylvania which has approved the introduction of poker, but will only allow its casinos to roll out the options this summer.
