Florida Poker Gets more Legal Changes

With significant changes due to take place in gaming laws in Florida from July 1st, there have been frantic last minute changes made to the proposal. The latest change has been a revision by the state’s Division of Pari Mutuel Wagering regarding the operating hours of Florida poker rooms.
A memo from the Director of this division, Milton Champion was sent to state poker rooms, stating that that it would be seeking a change in the way an operating ‘day’ is defined in the law. The division hopes to change the definition from what it stands at today (6 am – 5.59 am) to the new midnight – 11.59 pm.
The Division of Pari Mutuel Wagering said that it would be presenting these changes during the next legislation session, however they may kick in by default when the new poker room hours begin on the first of next month. New state laws dictate that poker rooms are allowed to stay open for 18 hours a day on weekdays and 24 hours a day on weekends.
This is not the first change that Florida poker rooms have had to deal with. Poker rooms were previously advised that an operating day would be defined as midnight to 11.59, but changed their arrangements when that was changed in May to 6 am to 5.59 pm.
From July 1st, Florida poker rooms will be allowed to offer games and tournaments with no restrictions on buy in or bet amounts.
State poker players should expect to see changes at some most of the poker rooms including Calder Casino, Gulfstream Park, Isle Casino, Mardi Grass Casino, Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood, Derby Lane, Sarasota Kennel Club, Tampa Bay Downs, Tampa Greyhound Track, Daytona Beach Kennel Club, Hamilton Jai Alai, Ocala Poker and the Orange Park Kennel Club and St. Johns Greyhound Park.
