Some of the biggest poker players in the business will be able to feel right at home in a brand new series of live tournaments launched by Full Tilt Poker. The site announced the launch of the Onyx Cup Series, which boasts buy-ins of up to $300,000 – certainly not for the faint hearted or the average online poker player.
The elite of the elite poker players will be able to pitch their skill against one another in six live tournaments (five preliminary tournaments and a grand final). Full Tilt Poke has said that an estimated prize pool of $30 million will be up for grabs – which is to be expected in a series of tournaments where the buy in only begins at $100,000!
It was also announced that the tournaments will be televised and broadcast throughout the world, although Full Tilt Poker has not yet released the name of the TV partner.
The first tournament in the Onyx Cup will be held on May 11th and 12th in Las Vegas, and several top names have committed to attending, including Eric Seidel, Chris Ferguson and Howard Lederer.
Full Tilt has promised to hold qualifying events online for the Onyx Cup, which should definitely appeal to internet poker fans.
The top three players in each of the preliminary tourneys and the grand final will move up a leader board, and the player with the most points at the end of the Onyx Cup will win a luxury sports car, over and beyond his or her winnings.
