Gambling Law Professor Reviews UIGEA Regulations
Written by Tom L | Wednesday, October 17th, 2007
We had the plessure to be able to get rights to the first article the Gambling Law Professor, I. Nelson Rose wrote about the UIGEA regulations.
The article is titled, “Proposed Internet Gaming Regulations and Players“. It covers the basics most poker players should be aware of and what lies ahead.
In the article Mr. Rose talks about how he thinks we have a long time before we see any major changes from the new law. Because the regulations are filled with so many exemptions he believes poker players will be able to play poker just fine even after the regulations are in affect.
As of right now these regulations which Mr. Rose reviewed are still in what’s called a “commenting” phase and will be so until Dec. 12, 2007. After which banks are requested to have the regulations in affect within 6 months. Not going to happen says Mr. Rose. It took the Federal Reserve board well past their deadline to come up with these regulations which in reality don’t really clarify anything.
One thing Mr. Nelson reiterated was that poker players will not be prosecuted for playing online poker. He also said paper checks by snailmail will always be an option and not covered in the regulations of the UIGEA.
In all, a good optomistic article and I suggest anyone who plays poker to sit down and read it. The article was written with the poker player in mind so hopefully it will give you some clarity as to what lies ahead.
