Gus Hansen Gets Beat Up

The Theo Jorgensen and Gus Hansen boxing match began on Saturday afternoon Eastern Time as scheduled. Jorgensen was dressed in black shorts with white stripes and black headgear, while Hansen was dressed in black shorts and blue headgear. The official bookies had favored Jorgensen before the fight. The match lasted for three rounds.
Though quite a few of those who had watched the fight said it was ugly, there was no knock out and the fight had to be decided on points. The panel of judges gave the bout to Jorgensen. However the viewing public was not happy with that decision. At a vote call on TwoPlusTwo 47% voted for Hansen and only 28% for Jorgensen. One member even said, “…. but i thought Gus was ahead in the first 2 rounds and Theo got the third. Didn’t think Theo should have won.” But the judges’ decision was as always final and Hansen had to cough up the agreed amount of $35,000.
After the bout Hansen shared the ring with Jorgensen to allow the assembled media to take photographs. Jorgensen and Hansen are great friends except in three arenas. One is of course poker and the second is now boxing. The third arena where the two are rivals is the squash courts. The fight was staged as a publicity event for the launching of GusHansenTV, which will be Hansen’s personal video blog. The production activities for GusHansenTV will be located in Hansen’s native Denmark and in Las Vegas. The video blog will carry stories of Hansen’s participation in various poker events. The boxing match was the premiere show on GuHansenTV. The tickets to watch it live cost $40 each. Before the Hansen Jorgensen bout, there was a fight between Stig Tofting and Sidney Lee. Tofting is a football star and Lee is a wrestler and both are Hansen’s friends.
The website has already received some scathing criticism. Gambling 911 columnist, Thomas Somach, said, “Danish poker pro Gus “The Great Dane” Hansen is truly a great poker player, having won nearly six million dollars in career poker tournament earnings. But when it comes to running a website -even one about poker- he is just as inept as the next clown who thinks anyone can sit down at a computer and create and operate a successful website.” But then Somach has an aversion to all things Danish. He once called Denmark a country known for “pastry and a stupid mermaid statue” and has never been able to visit Denmark since.
So popular was the boxing match in the world of poker that Patrik Antonius and Tom dawn halted the second session of the Durrrr Challenge to watch the fight. Subsequently the two have completed three sessions. 2,921 out of the stipulated 50,000 hands have been completed. Antonius is leading by $56,778, which really is neither here not there.
