Gustavson Beats Eastgate in WPT London

In what has been described as the quickest victory in the history of the World Poker Tour (WPT), 23 year old Aaron Gustavson defeated poker great, Peter Eastgate in just fifteen minutes of heads up play.
Gustavson, of the United States, entered the WPT London event on a Poker Stars qualifier ticket and fought his way through over 700 contestants to come face to face with the Great Dane, Eastgate, who holds the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event title.
Gustavson entered the game with a 2:1 chip lead over Eastgate and clung to his advantage right until the end.
The young player’s fantastic victory brought with it a prize of £850,000 – the most that Gustavson has won until now. Eastgate had to ‘make do’ with a second prize of £530,000.
The final table looked as follows:
1. Aaron Gustavson
2. Peter Eastgate
3. Nikolai Senninger
4. Martin Gudvangen
5. Dominic Cullen
6. Rui Milhomens
7. Raymond Wu
8. Karim Bennani
This was the largest offline poker event held in the United Kingdom and generated a lot of interest, including from the world of online poker.
“I’m speechless, totally overwhelmed,” said Gustavson to the media after his fantastic victory. “I don’t think it’s going to hit me for a quite a while. Having this title is amazing – a dream come true.”
Eastgate was a good sport about his loss and said: “It’s been an amazing ride. I made it to second place, which is far more than you hope for going into a final table. Big applause for Aaron – he deserved it. I’m pleased I made it to heads-up.”
Aaron Gustavson is primarily an online poker player who has made some serious cash wins at sites such as PokerStars. His largest cash win, prior to taking the EPT London leg title, was in July when he won $135,010 in the PokerStars Sunday Warm Up.
When asked the secret of his success, Gustavson said at the time that belonging to poker forums helped improve his game.
“I’ve been playing poker pretty seriously for two or three years, but when I started studying the forums more and posting on the forums, definitely over the last six to eight months, it took my game to the next level,” he commented.
