Hansen Accuses OMGCLAYAIKEN of Cheating Him

Of late high stakes cash games seem to be riddled with accusations of cheating. Earlier it was Phil Hellmuth who accused Matt Hawrilenko of cheating. Now it is the turn of Gus Hansen to claim that Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond and Urindanger colluded against him.

This incident took place at the $500/$1000 Pot Limit Omaha tables at Full Tilt Poker. The accusation came after Galfond won a pot of $251,611. When Hansen saw Urindanger’s cards he felt that they were not good enough for entry and believed that Galfond and Urindanger were squeezing him. He said as much, though obliquely and politely at first, with remarks like “too suspicious for me” and “nice play guys”. But it generated into some heated words with Galfond. Hansen said that he was willing to bet that Galfond and Urindanger colluded against him to which Galfond retorted that he would take up the bet if there was a way to prove it. Then Hansen suggested that Galfond take a lie detector test.

Phil Ivey was also in the deal. He tried to diffuse the situation, fist by suggesting that Hansen was just joking about the cheating accusation. Then when that did not work Ivey offered to compensate Hansen for the $85,000 he had lost in the hand. “call it a gift” Ivey said. When Hansen refused the offer Ivey made a final try. He said, “lets jus all go all in blind nex hand. i promise it will make everyone feel better.” But that did not work as well. Hansen remained convinced that the players had been colluding against him.

The deal was discussed threadbare on Two Plus Two. durrrr, who happened to be another player in that deal vouched for Galfond and Urindanger. He posted, “gus is retarded, they’re [Galfond and Urindanger] both good friends of mine and super ethical/trustworthy.” He added some moves appear irrational in post game analysis but some players like to take more risks than others and therefore make these moves.

However many respondents on the forum were not convinced that high stakes poker is free from collusion as can be judged from their posts. One wrote, “Count me in as one of the people that is very suspicious of how all the young internet stars seem to be very good friends with each other.” A second was of the view, “i mean must be creepy to play with 4 opponents who are all close friends.” And a third said, “i always thought they just combined money and shared profits.”
