How Good Are You, and UFC 100

Written by RogerCP | Saturday, July 11th, 2009

Before I say anything, I just want to saw screw you all who are in Vegas right now and are going to watch UFC 100 at Mandalay Bay. Seriously, I hate you lucky bastards, Andreas, Brandon, Kyle, etc!

I contemplated making a trip over there yesterday but decided to use the last of the Jet credits from Absolute Poker / Chipleader on a surf trip. The whole luggage and not having to worry about how many surfboards we bring makes it worth it to save and use on a surf vacation instead.

Im going to get to the “How good are you” part in a second Im just really excited about the fights tomorrow. Even if you’re not into watching Mixed Martial Arts I’d go to a sports bar and watch or something. The fight card is rediculously good. Blood is sure to be everywhere, lol.

Ok, so onto the exciting talk that is SEO. I gain nothing from this as I already know the answer but it took a brief second to realize wtf was wrong with my new purchased domain, gamblingsites.com and why it wasn’t getting cached by google.

The first person that can tell me why gamblingsites.com is not in google, I’ll transfer $100 to your Pokerstars or Fulltilt account. The penalty is still in place, and it’s actually pretty easy to figure out so I’m sure someone will get it quickly. I figure it might be fun for the beginner SEO to see if they know their stuff.

So basically I haven’t had anything to blog about. I’ve been bored shitless, with the exclusion of having to work on, and train a few people to begin working on the new websites. The waves have been flat, my girlfriend and I broke up, and the deal I was going to do with Compatible Poker fell through. Not that I’m complaining, life is still good but for god sakes is it too much to ask for waves once in a blue moon!

As blogged about previously, I’ve been doing quite a bit of boxing. My nose is really getting screwed up and I think it’s time to go to the doctor. One decent punch to the face and my nose is usually bleeding pretty badly and hurts. That and the inside of its crooked and the bump in the middle is getting bigger. Oh well, it can all be fixed.

Here is a pretty weak video of me sparring the guy who fucked up my nose in the first place. I use a facebar headgear piece when I spar him now. Plus he takes it easy on me but his punches are still hard as he weighs a good 40lbs more than me.

Anyways the first to come up with the fix to gamblingsites.com gets the hundo. To show that I actually know the fix, I’ve done something in this post to prove it. :)

Is it the site that was on it before?

Here is the wayback machine link: http://web.archive.org/web/20060617161222/http://www.gamblingsites.com/

If that’s the reason, I know how you feel… I started a new site recently and even started blogging about it PAL. When it wasn’t getting indexed I decided to check if there was previous site on the domain and sure enough there was a spammy one, sucks a lot.

  2. RogerCP Says:

Ha, that was quick. :) Yea the guy was using hidden text before it eventually got whacked. I never noticed it because during purchase there was nothing wrong with the content on the site but in 2007 it was removed from the index for that reason.

You can PAL me your stars or ftp account for the $100.

It shouldn’t take anything more than a reconsideration request telling google that you purchased the site and didn’t realize the spam that was on it before and the reason for the penalty.

Did you try this yet for your site?

P.S. – Here was the clue in the post.

  3. Kevin Says:

Thanks dude, sending you a PAL pm. Yeah I sent in a reconsideration request telling them that but haven’t been re included yet, how long does it usually take?

What’d you think of the UFC fights last night?

  4. RogerCP Says:

Cool, got your pm and sent it. Thought you were in Canada though? It said London.

It’s supposed to take a little over two weeks (several they say). Actually this kind of penalty is pretty common and is actually one of the examples Google uses in their “about reconsideration request forms”.

From Google – “In addition, if you recently purchased a domain that you think may have violated our guidelines before you owned it, you can use the reconsideration request form to let us know that you recently acquired the site and that it now adheres to the guidelines.”

They say that a person views every request but Ive been told by a Google employee that its not true. Some or the more obvious penalties get filtered to where they can easily detect if the spammy stuff is still in place and it never makes it to a real person and you’re stuck with not knowing.

I think Lesnar was roid raging, lol. Bisping was an idiot for moving right into Henderson’s right hand. We called that KO happening right as he started to do it. Pretty good fights all together though. Would have liked to see the 5 they didn’t show, looked like a lot of blood on the mat when PPV kicked in!

  5. Kevin Says:

Yeah it’s London, Ontario (Canada) … we like to copy a lot of the UKs cities I guess.

I think its been about 5+ weeks since I sent in the reconsideration request, so I am hoping something happens soon.

  6. JohnH Says:

I have had some success with re-inclusions after having a site hacked. Mine was pretty quick (about a week) to come back. Good luck to the both of you with that.

Roger you are not the only one who is bored shitless. I think it’s just one of the few downsides to being an affiliate. Once you are done being a workaholic, you become bored as hell. And once you’ve had a certain degree of success it becomes harder and harder to top that. It’s like you need something mega-huge to get you as excited/motivated again.

  7. Ridge Says:

The stuff I saw on youtube of the UFC was pretty good. Hate that dude acted like an ass though. I’ve never had to file for a re-inclusion either so I guess I’m no help there. Seems like they should get through those quickly, buy I bet they get a ton form people thinking they have a penalty, when in reality they just don’t rank well.

I know both those sites you and Kevin have are sick man, so hopefully it happens soon enough. Also, hope they waves roll in soon for ya bro

  8. MJ Says:

I’m sure reinclusion won’t be an issue, but have you ever considered flying to Vegas without a private jet? You can dude!

Second point – by the right boat and you can make your own waves during the down times :)

  9. RogerCP Says:

Yea, kinda strange its taking Kevin’s site so long to get re-included. Maybe I can take a look at it to see if its something else. Should be a pretty simple process.

Ridge – Yea Brock was on fire at the end. I heard Dana made him apologize and say he was impartial to the beer he drank, lol.

Mike – I’m a damn wuss when it comes to planes! I did actually go wakeboarding today, behind a jetski, ha. Going back out tomorrow hopefully to jump the waves behind it out in the ocean where the inlet meets the ocean sandbars. Should be eventful, might have to wear a helmut!

  10. MJ Says:

That I hope to see pics of.

  11. Kevin Says:

“We’ve processed your reconsideration request for http://www.bestpokersite.org/ June 16, 2009

We received a request from a site owner to reconsider how we index the following site: http://www.bestpokersite.org/.

We’ve now reviewed your site. When we review a site, we check to see if it’s in violation of our Webmaster Guidelines. If we don’t find any problems, we’ll reconsider our indexing of your site. If your site still doesn’t appear in our search results, check our Help Center for steps you can take.”

I got this back and it still hasn’t been re included (been a month). I am guessing it is still banned, any idea of what I can do?

  12. RogerCP Says:

It looks like you’ve still got keyword stuffing and bad anchor text variation (actually no variation).

On your homepage you mention “poker site” and “best poker site” WAY too many times. Every link I checked coming into your site also used the anchor text “best poker site”.

Google is cracking down on obvious SEO and from instant glance you can tell what you’re trying to do.

Also looks like the previous owner was selling links from the 2007 archive.

I’d lighten up on the keywords and vary your incoming links, and/or change your existing ones. Then file for another reconsideration telling them of every single change.

    Just my thoughts.

  13. Kevin Says:

Yeah way to much keyword stuffing I guess. When I was writing the homepage I just tried to include the keywords as much as possible, when looking at a keyword density tool I used them too much.

Thanks for the advice bro, will fix that and try again

  14. jay Says:

    beat that fat ass!

  15. MJ Says:

I’m really suprised you weren’t reincluded Kevin, I guess the requirements are tough once penalized because your site certainly is better than a lot of spammy sites that aren’t penalized.

Best of luck with it, maybe taking down your resources page temporarily would help?

  16. RogerCP Says:

I still believe it’s overoptimization both with links and onpage including sidebar navi, not one other link is a different anchor text.

    http://www.backlinkwatch.com

Everything is “Best Poker Site”. This may not get you banned if the site were indexed but it “may” not get you reincluded as they want affiliate sites to be squeaky clean.

Just a thought as to why they might still be reluctant to re-include….I like the site though, nice and clean.

On a side note, I submitted my reinclusion for GS last week so we shall see.

P.S. – Jay, yea right, Sam was just screwing with me, he hits like a train when he’s trying.
