Is T6Poker Legit – What Is TonyG’s Involvement?
Written by Tom L | Monday, January 7th, 2008
This seems to be the question these days in light of recent events surfacing through the forums and current posts on TonyG’s blog from players.
T6 Poker was put to the test in early December, one month prior to their official launch with promises to become one of the largest networks in online poker within six months.
Even through a one on one interview with Poker News the owner, Torben Hübertz can’t seem to shake off the bad publicity revolving the new room and his past marketing ploys.
During the beta period Pokerwiki disclosed some very disturbing background information on the company including;
“The client is downloadable from an anonymous file sharing site (Rapidshare). The company’s internet domain is registered anonymously. The company Alison Price can be found on the warning list of Swedish. Financial Supervisory Authority (Finansinspektionen)but changed its name in November-December to 1 oz Group.”
During the time of this release, TonyG also announced his “involvement” in the company on his website where he states he will be endorsing T6Poker as a professional player. Tony then proceeds to make the same claims of the site’s future in rising to the top of the industry.
This was followed up with numerous players who clearly stated that the owner of T6Poker.com Torben Hübertz, does in fact have a past reputation for scamming his investors and using a marketing system that involved a pyramid scheme.
TonyG followed up trying to explain that he knew nothing of the sort of past business deals between the owner and investors, and that his only involvement in the site was endorsing it just like any other professional player endorses a room, that he is not an owner or an investor. He also reiterated the fact that the room is prepared financially to ante up some very hefty tournaments for players.
One of the key elements brought up by players is the owner’s previous marketing tactics and the current plan which is looking more and more like a pyramid scheme. Currently T6Poker is offering marketing and promotional affiliates a share of 63% of the rake generated at the tables. This is quite high considering most rooms provide affiliates on average 25%-40% and it does seem like a top offer, although taking a glance at the cost, T6Poker.com is requiring an upfront fee of 665 Euros in order for investors to get in.
The quick switch in company names from Alison Price to 1 oz group only a few days prior to their official launch has people questioning the purpose behind this.
Furthermore the company has claimed they are no longer using Rapidshare as a means for players using their software, and instead is powered by Cyberarts. Huberts explained during a recent interview “We are very serious about creating one of the premier independent online poker sites in the world. To do this we must have the best”.
So far this has been far from the best with customer complaints of tournament cancellations, to lack of payment processors and major delays in withdraws. Players who have managed to win some nice bankrolls through the large freerolls (when they did run as scheduled) are not able to withdraw these winnings until they make a deposit at the room.
TongG once again came to his blog in defense of the new poker room stating that they have taken on more professional players such as Mel Judah, and Jeff Lisandro and in Tony G style he had this to state regarding the negative claims of T6Poker.
“The bashing always goes on no matter who is doing what, and where they are doing it, something has something bad to say about it. If you can’t see the advantage to new sites coming and more choices, than you can go bury your head in the sand while the rest of the world moves forward around your little pile of rocks.”
Although it’s unclear as of right now whether the room is in fact on the up and up, players are finding there are still many flaws and issues, not just with the games themselves but with payments and how they will be processed. Warnings have been spread across most major forums for players to watch how the room operates before making the choice to play there.
