Ivey is Out of WSOP

At the time of going to press, the final table of the World Series of Poker event is still being played out, but one piece of newsworthy information simply has to be shared – the world champion poker professional, Phil Ivey, has been eliminated in seventh place.

Ivey, who entered the final table with a chip handicap, ended his WSOP dream with a queen on the flop against chip-leading player, Darvin Moon.

Speaking to the poker author, Nolan Dalla, shortly after his loss, Ivey said that because he was short on chips going in, he was “kind of waiting for something good to happen.” Ivey pointed out that his last hand was unlucky. “I did have ace-eight against two fours (earlier) also, where I lost that pot,” he said. “And then, I just got grinded down. I held off and stayed even for a little bit. And then, I got it in with ace-king and lost it. There was not really much I could do.”

This was the first time that Phil Ivey made the final table of the WSOP Main Event and he was visibly disappointed at having reached this far in the game without being crowned the winner. “I think I gave myself as much possibility of winning it as I could,” he said.

Nevertheless, Ivey told Dalla that there were a couple of things that he would have done differently during the game.

Ivey praised the crowd who turned out to support him and said that he could definitely feel the energy of his fans. “It was an amazing experience. Poker has come so far,” he said. “I mean, when I first started playing, I would tell people I play poker for a living and they would look at me like I was crazy. So, to see this – it’s really mind-boggling.”

Ivey promised to be back at the Main Event final table as fast as he could and said that he took his loss in proportion. “That’s poker,” he said. “I think I will be back within a couple of years, so I am not too worried about it.”
