Jamie Gold Wins Main Event at WSOP

Jamie Gold is the newest addition to the World Series of Poker’s famed bracelet winners after winning the exhausting 2006 WSOP Main Event.

2006 WSOP WinnerA grueling 2006 WSOP Main Event lead to a long night of poker with Jamie Gold coming out on top. The final day play lasted for over 13 straight hours.

During the match Jamie Gold was seen playing extremely aggressive at times and passive during other times.

“I was really just basing my strategy on the way others were playing. If they played aggressive I played tight. If they played tight I played aggressive. It was as simple as that,” said Gold.

The favored pro to win the final event was Allen Cunningham. Allen couldn’t seem to get on a roll. One minute he was pushing around the field and the next he was getting bluffed out of huge pots by Wasicka (the second place finisher). Cunningham finished a disappointing 4th place.

Right behind Cunningham was Michael Binger. He fell victim to Jamie Gold’s 3 4 offsuit when his aces were cracked by a straight on the turn.

This lead to a heads up match between Wasicka and Gold. Jamie Gold had nearly 7/8th’s of the chips in play going into heads up play.

After 25 minutes of play the final hand went down like this.

Wasicka was dealt pocket 10’s and Gold was given Q 9 offsuit. The flop came Q 8 5 and Gold pushed all-in. Wasicka neglecting to call but eventually pushed all-in to see his hopes of becoming world champ slip down the drain when the river and turn brought blanks.

While the second place finish was disappointing to Wasicka he still walked away with $6.1 million which is close to last years 1st place finish.

Congratulations to Jamie Gold for winning the 2006 WSOP Main Event title and the $12 million prize.
