Jepsen Picked Up By Betfair Poker

Peter “Zupp” Jepsen seems to be much in demand. In December 2008 Ladbrokes Poker had announced that Jepsen had signed up with them. There was no confirmation from Jepsen and after a while the issue died down. Probably Jepsen was holding out for a better offer. That offer has now come from Betfair Poker. This time the dotted line has been inked because Jepsen too has confirmed that he will be joining Betfair. The other players already on the Betfair Poker team are Annette Obrestad, Sorel Mizzi and Joh Tabatabai.
The announcement was made at a press conference during the first day of the European Poker Tour Copenhagen stop. Jepsen said, “I am looking forward to starting my sponsorship with Betfair Poker. They have been really welcoming, and I already feel part of the team. It’s given me new impetus to go out and get a big win under my belt.” He further indicated that he would be playing all the major live tournaments under the Betfair banner. It is not that Jepsen does not have any big wins. He won the European Poker Tour Warsaw event in 2007 and took home $423,323. Prior to that, he finished third in the 2006 Caribbean Poker Classic.
Jepsen also said, “I am also looking to play some high-stakes cash games on Betfair Poker against the other pros and [amateur] players.” He already has a good record in online high stakes games. The highlight is the $499,000 pot he won against Tom Dwan holding a ten high straight. At that time in September 2008 it was the largest ever pot. Later Dwan accused Jepsen of allowing the Finnish high stakes regular Sami “Lars Luzak” Kelopuro to play using his account. The reason that Dwan gave was that Jepsen did not play at the $500/$1000 stakes online but only at stakes like $25/$50. Dwan added that both Jepsen and Kelopuro were at the time at Cannes playing the Partouche Poker Tour event. Jepsen denied the accusation and there was no way Dwan could prove it.
Bruce Stubbs, head of Betfair Poker, said at the press conference, “When we are looking for new players, we look for young, successful online players who have the ability to perform well at offline tournaments. We now have four of the best multi-disciplined sponsored players in the industry, and I am confident that Peter will feel right at home on the Betfair Poker tables.”
