How Linux users can perform ways to play online poker using the free Linux operating system
Playing poker using Linux can be frustration to non advanced Linux users. Because most online poker rooms are Windows based there is a gap for Linux users wanting to play poker on Linux. There are some options for Linux users such as performing dual boots, running Wine, or playing at Java based poker rooms.
A lot of Linux users despise running Windows and performing dual boots. A dual boot will allow the Linux user to run Windows temporarily to play at their specified online poker room. Of course, the Linux user will also have to purchase Windows in order to run both operating systems. In any case both Linux and Windows can not be run at the same time. For those that don’t mind running Windows this is a very viable option and allows for the most flexibility in the long run. Performing a dual boot can be found at the Linux poker page.
For those Windows haters there is also an option of running Wine. Wine has proven to be a very acceptable alternative to performing a dual boot and running Windows. There are some limitations to running Wine because not all online poker rooms will run using Wine. Places like PokerStars.com have shown great compatibility with Wine and Winehq.com actually has them Gold listed because it runs the best in Wine. Performing and running Wine installation can be an easy application to intermediately experienced Linux users. More instructions on how to install Wine can be viewed.
Yes, there will always be the stubborn ones who absolutely refuse to play any games that do not support Linux. While there are no native Linux poker rooms there are many that will run using Java versions. Places like Pokerroom.com have been supporting Linux since 1997 and were actually the first ever to support Linux. Their Java poker version runs in the browser and is also compatible with Mac poker players. This option is viable for the not so advanced Linux user who isn’t all that technological sound and confident in installing new programs.
