Leo Decaprio, Poker and New Movie

As if we need further proof that online poker has truly become part of the mainstream across the global cultural landscape, along comes actor Leonardo di Caprio to do just that.
It was reported this week in Entertainment Weekly and the Hollywood Reporter that the Titanic star will be launching an as of yet untitled movie about internet poker groups in Costa Rica. The film will be made by Paramount.
The film, which is to be written by Brian Koppelman and David Levien, is not yet scripted but the duo is sure to do a good job if their previous works are anything to go by. The team wrote the screenplay for the 1998 smash hit “Rounders”, which is seen as THE movie in the online poker community.
Koppelman, Levien and di Caprio have proven to be a great working team, as was seen on the set of Beat the Reaper, a mobster movie that will be released this year.
Many of the top poker groups have their offices located in Costa Rica, including Ultimate Bet, Absolute Poker and Action Poker, as well as Doyle’s Room.
It has not yet been announced when poker fans can see the new online poker film on the big screen. According to di Caprio’s PR people, the star is involved in a whopping 21 different projects, all of them within various stages of wrap up.
This possibly explains why the baby faced boy has turned into one of the greatest international superstars to grace the screen.
Leo has also been seen traipsing around the world with his gorgeous Israeli bikini model girlfriend, Bar Refaeli, in tow and will release his newest film, Shutter Island (Martin Scorcese) in the near future.
Naturally, di Caprio isn’t the only actor to bring the subject of poker to a wider audience. It was only days ago that the film, All In: The Poker Movie (written and directed by Douglas Tirota) was launched in Vegas to some excellent reviews. The film brings a complete and comprehensive history of poker in the United States and certainly teaches viewers things that they were not aware of before.
