Little Fishing Break
Written by RogerCP | Saturday, February 21st, 2009
Matt and I went down to a place called Guana Park Reserve. It’s this really neat stretch of estuary marsh type area that is usually full of fish. The place is VERY finicky though.
It was windy as hell and the water was still cold so I didn’t really have any high hopes that we would catch anything. This time of year the Flounder are usually hitting depending on if they have the flood gates open or not…they didn’t.
We decided to get some live shrimp and do some wade fishing along the water’s edge. Personally it’s my favorite way to fish, but I’d rather use top water zaraspooks because you catch bigger fish on them.
Anyways I was suprised that after about 2 seconds after my poor little shrimp hit the water it was enhaled by a MONSTER trout. See below….lol, actually this is the second trout I caught I think.

Obviously not a very big one, ha. Look at the poor bastards eyes, he really thought I was going to eat him! They can get pretty big in this estuary, up to 30 inches but that’s more toward the summer time.
In total we probably caught about 8 trout and a couple redfish. Here is one of the redfish along with the rest of the pics.

Not very big, but still fun to catch and release.

Matt and his redfish

On our last few shrimp.
It’s a fun little place to go fishing and crabbing if you like the outdoors. I hear quite a lot of people go hunting back in the woods area and that seems like it would be some fun too….minus the zillion mosquitos and noseums bitting the crap out of you!

That looks like a nice spot to fish, I live about 1/4 of a mile from the White River here in Arkansas, but I haven’t made the time to put the boat out in over a year. I really just like floating around in the boat in some quiet spot, I’m not a very good fisherman lol
Well, now you’ve motivated me to go with weekend if possible.
