Mizzi Versus Grospellier, What Happened

It is the season for making prop bets but not so much for fulfilling them. It must be said that the first prop bet, the Hansen versus Jorgensen boxing match, started and completed on schedule. But thereafter things seem to have gone haywire. The durrrr challenge started late and is presently in limbo. Mizzi said he wanted to renew his health and look like the guy in the picture. (Ok, maybe not)

The Mizzi versus Grospellier marathon event was announced over a month ago but as yet no date has been set nor has any update been made. If this state of affairs continues then prop bets will lose their value and poker pros their fan following.

The challenge between Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi and Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, which has been billed as the Iron Man challenge, was announced by Mizzi on his blog at Betfair Poker. The marathon event would consist of seventeen events with the 9 round kick boxing match being the show stopper.

The stake for each individual event was decided at $10,000 with the kick boxing event at $20,000. If a player won 80% of the events he would get a bonus of $50,000. Hence by winning all the contests a player could make as much as $230,000. In addition the loser would have to pay 15% of his tournament winnings for the next $300,000 buy-in worth of tournaments.

The seventeen events are to be completed over seven days. The first two days will cover eleven weight lifting exercises. A best of three sets tennis match will be held on day three. On day four the poker pros will compete in rope jumping and arm wrestling. The Main Event, the kick boxing match, will be on day five. Swimming and rowing competitions will be held on the sixth and seventh days. The swimming competition is innovative. The players have to stay in the centre of the pool the longest without touching walls or without putting their feet on the ground.

The reason why Mizzi agreed to this challenge proposed by Grospellier was that he wanted to focus on his health. He wrote, “I said last year that having a healthy lifestyle can only improve your poker game as it has knock on effects for your mind and overall well-being. This should be great motivation to get me out of any comfort zone I’ve slipped into.”

Drug abuse in sports has become a matter of grave concern and Mizzi and Grospellier are sending out a strong message in connection. They have decided to disallow the use of any performance enhancing drug that is deemed illegal in the United States. Any player who is found to violate this condition will automatically lose the challenge and also pay a $50,000 penalty.

Fans are eagerly waiting for the dates and venue for these challenges. They hope that it will not fizzle out like the durrrr challenge has.
