New Interactive Sub for Harrahs Entertainment

It was only a matter of time until Harrah’s Entertainment, the huge Vegas based enterprise, went online and this weekend it happened.

The group announced the launch of its new subsidiary, Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment, with an eye to the European casino and poker market.

One of the mains missions of the new interactive group will be to handle the growth of Harrah’s World Series of Poker brand around the world.

“As the world’s largest gaming company, Harrah’s is taking a proactive approach toward international and interactive expansion,” said the Chairman and President for Harrah’s Entertainment, Gary Loveman. “It is important we position ourselves to explore new markets as well as new technologies with our best in class brands.”

There was huge speculation that Harrah’s will be teaming with industry leading Party Gaming in order to advance the new online venture, and this idea took on even more shape with the announcement that Mitch Garber will be heading the new Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment as its Chief Executive Officer.

Garber, to remind all, was the former Chief Executive Officer of Party Gaming and retains friendly ties with those in the company.

A working relationship between Party Gaming and Harrah’s seems to be a natural step in the whole process, especially since Party Gaming has put the frustrating chapter with the US Department of Justice behind it.

Party Gaming reached an agreement with the DOJ to pay out over $100 million in exchange for having charges brought against the company for going against the US Wire Act before the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was passed in 2006.

With Party Gaming free of charges, it was expected that the company would be approached by US gaming companies hoping to benefit from the group’s solid standing in the European market.

With one of Party Gaming’s former CEO’s in charge of Harrah’s new online division, it makes perfect sense that a partnership between the two to promote the WSOP and other poker brands is inevitable.
