Molly Bloom, known as the Poker Princess, who was convicted for organizing high stake poker games for Hollywood stars such as Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, will see her own name in lights when a movie based on her life story gets released this year. Shooting for Molly’s Game was completed last week and the movie is now in its post-production stage.

Aaron Sorkin, the Oscar-winning screenwriter (of Social Network and A Few Good Men fame), was co-author of the script, based on Bloom’s autobiography, “Molly’s Game: High Stakes, Hollywood’s Elite, Hotshot Bankers, My Life in the World of Underground Poker.” Sorkin will also direct the movie.
A number of high-profile actors will star in the movie, including Kevin Costner who plays Bloom’s father, as well as Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba, and Michael Cera.
Molly Bloom was an Olympic skiing hopeful who moved to California and started hosting high stake poker games that attracted actors and wealthy businessmen. Bloom enjoyed a lavish lifestyle that included chartering private planes, a household of staff and luxury homes.
Bloom first came on the FBI’s radar in 2011, and in 2013 she was arrested and charged with profiting from hosting illegal poker games. After she initially pleaded not guilty, Bloom changed her plea at the end of 2013 and was ordered to pay $125,000 and sentenced to a year’s probation the following year.
“It always felt I was operating in a grey area but I did my best for the majority of the time to stay above board,” Bloom once said. “But I did cross the line.”
The movie, due to be released this summer, focuses on the relationship that Bloom (played by Jessica Chastain) had with a number of people in her life, including her father who is a psychology professor at Colorado University.
