New US Poker Platform on the Cards

One of the industry’s foremost software groups, Playtech, has taken a significant step into the US gaming market by joining forces with the New York based Scientific Games Corp. The joint venture will be called SciPlay, with the focus on creating games and products for government regulated lottery and gaming. These games – specially geared for the online market – will include poker.
The Chief Executive Officer of Scientific Games, Mike Chambrello said: “We anticipate that internet and multimedia distribution will be the next large wave of growth in gaming.”
The deal is seen as particularly important for Playtech, which excluded all US players from its poker and casino sites following the passage of the Safe Port Act (UIGEA) in 2006. The site suffered plummeting stock prices of up to 40% in a 24 hour period, but went on to recover its losses since then.
While Playtech does not accept US poker players still, it is believed that the new deal with Scientific Games will bring the company the closest it has ever been to the action since it exited the market in 2006.
If and when the US government changes its legislation surrounding online poker and casino gambling, Playtech will find itself in a very good position, thanks to the new SciPlay product.
The Playtech poker network, iPoker supports some of the most popular poker sites in the industry, including Titan Poker, Noble Poker, Centrebet Poker, Chili Poker and Bet 365.
“We have highly complementary skill-sets allied with a global reach and this partnership provides the opportunity to leverage off this combined know-how to maximum effect,” said Playtech Chief Executive Officer, Mor Weizer and Mike Chambrello, of Scientific Games in a joint statement.
“Customers will benefit from best of breed content, sophisticated player management systems, and long standing industry experience in providing highly secure, regulated, compliance oriented services,” they said.
Scientific Games Corporation currently serves over 100 customers worldwide, including the UK National Lottery, Camelot, as well as the Chinese state government.
