It was not that Jennifer ‘Jennicide’ Leigh had not done enough to achieve celebrity status playing online poker. She had.
But then for celebrities there are no full stops. Jennicide now features in the April 2008 issue of Playboy Magazine.
A preview of the cover is can be seen at Jennicide’s official website. Aptly described as the Poker Vixen, Jennicide wearing her million-dollar smile is all charm and attitude.
Jennifer Leigh began playing online poker in 2004. She harnesses her computer savvyness and her passion for video games to online poker skills. The skills were honed by reading poker books and in less than a year she became one of the highest-ranking women players in the online poker world. Soon she was beating the likes of Dan Harrington and Miami John Cernuto in heads up matches and playing at the highest possible online stakes of 100/200. Jennicide has featured in the IPA tour and in the WSOP. In the latter she has played in a team captained by her namesake, Jennifer Tilly. Being extremely health conscious and fighting fit, she regularly donates a portion of her winnings to the American Heart Association.
Now that she has got another feather in her cap, Jennicide spoke at length to Amy Calistri of PokerNews on both her experiences with Playboy and her career in poker.
She says that the people at Playboy, especially photographer Arny Freytag, were very understanding and made sure she was comfortable during the shoot. The shoot itself made her feel more confident of her body. She has seen the issue and is fully satisfied with the result. She does not see her posing for Playboy as being detrimental to her poker life. She believes that she is following in the footsteps of some great women like Pamela Anderson and Shannon Elizabeth.
Jennicide says, “And after all, we’re all born naked. Playboy is classic. I really look at it as an art form; a celebration of a woman’s body.” What she likes best is that apart from great pictures the issue discusses online poker, particularly the UIGEA and its ramifications.
Jennicide took a bold decision of becoming a pro gambler, giving up a college education and a potential legal career. She does not regret it. She has realized that though poker is not an athletic sport, fitness is of paramount importance. Therefore she has put in a lot of effort in this direction. She plays a lot online and loves it but does not like being tracked while she is playing. What she likes about poker as a career is that a player is accountable only to himself or herself. If she loses a lot of cash she does not lose sleep. But as a lawyer if she had lost a case she would have remained awake all night worrying about the ramifications to her client.
Poker celebrities from land casinos have hogged the lime light for long. It is great to see celebrities from the online poker world getting their due.
