Pennsylvania Predicts Quick Introduction of Poker

Now that Pennsylvanian lawmakers have made the decision to introduce table games such as poker to state casinos, they are eager to get the scheme up and running as soon as possible.
In January, Governor Ed Rendell signed the historic bill that would see Pennsylvanian’s playing poker, roulette and craps at casinos. At the time, it was predicted it would take up to nine months for players to actually enjoy their first wager on the green felt.
But Pennsylvanians are keen to get things moving and lawmakers approved new temporary regulations at a Gaming Board meeting this week that may very well see poker fans enjoying the game sooner rather than later.
Although the Gaming Board chairman Gregory Fajt said that there are no plans of rushing legislation, a prolonged Legislature budget process in the fall gave Board staff time to pen the regulations.
While a normal regulatory process can take up to 2 years, the temporary laws in effect bypass this process. As such, under new Pennsylvanian poker laws, table game dealers can be trained in the state, and a number of poker games earned themselves rules and specifications.
The legislation approved rules for five poker games in total that are played between players: Seven Card Stud, Omaha, Texas Hold ‘em, Five Card Stud and Five Card Draw. Poker variants played against the house also saw regulations approved, namely: Caribbean Stud Poker, Let it Ride Poker, Four Card Poker, Texas Hold ‘em Bonus Poker, Pai Gow Poker and Three Card Poker.
According to the approved laws, poker dealers will need to receive training (or have at least six months of experience at an accredited casino) before they can deal at poker games.
One of the main issues that the Gaming Board is insisting on is that dealers learn how to recognize problem gamblers and to perform – for some reason – cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
