Phil Laak Bombs Out in ATV Accident

Professional poker player, Phil Laak, also known as ‘the bomber” found himself in hospital with major injuries – including broken bones – when he lost control of his All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) on a camping trip.
The player was enjoying a relaxing (or so he thought) weekend with fellow poker pals, Brian Rast, Alec Torelli and Antonio Esfandiari in Oregon, and decided to try out his ATV over the dunes.
Friends of the player, including those known only as Dave and Tony, saw Laak lose control of the vehicle and get badly injured. According to Esfandiari, who has kept the poker world updated about Laak’s condition through Twitter, the player has at least seven broken bones, as well as lacerations to his right eye.
“We were following Dave and Tony on the ATVs and we were keeping up very well,” Esfandiari said in an interview. “We went over a sand dune, but there was a drop hidden behind it. It could have happened to either of us, honestly. Phil tried to jump off in mid-air, but he ended up landing on his bike. His elbow is broken and his wrist is all jacked up. His eye is also really messed up. Had it been one millimeter off, he’d probably be blind.”
Despite these injuries, Laak is said to be handling it all in his stride, and is even joking with the medical staff.
He even managed his own tweets, including:
“ATV accident, massive army injury and lacerations to eye in Oregon. Life is good.”
Followed by: “Stitches forthcoming. Could have been worse. I’m lucky to be in one piece.”
Pictures of Laak in hospital, injuries and all, have been posted on various sites on the internet.
