The current record for the longest poker marathon in history is by Paul Zimbler who played an incredible 74 hours and 20 minutes to get his name in the Guinness Book of World Records. However, Zimbler’s record is now at risk after another poker player expressed his will to break it in a big way.

Eccentric poker player, Phil Laak aka The Unabomber, said that he wants to see his name in lights and aims to hold a poker session that will run an incredible 80 hours. Laak admitted that the attempt would be challenging to say the least, but he was looking forward to the session.

“I have played many enduro sessions of poker, but never anything of this magnitude,” Laak said. “I know this will test my limits but I love a good challenge and am excited to be trying to beat this record in Vegas’ top poker room.”

Indeed, Laak has chosen the Bellagio Poker Room as its base to try and beat Zimbler’s record. By beginning at noon on June 2nd, he will have to play until 3 pm. on the 5th of the month, and to beat the record, and meet his goal of 80 hours, he will need to play into the evening hours.

“We are always thrilled to be a part of history and we believe Phil can break the world record,” said the Director of Poker Operations at the Bellagio. “He is a great customer and friend or ours and the Bellagio Poker room staff wishes him the best in his efforts.”

So what motivates someone to try out such a difficult feat – even through an enjoyable pastime such as poker? Laak has said that he will donate half his winnings made during the 80 hour poker session to his favorite charity – Camp Sunshine, which provides summer camp facilities to seriously ill kids and their families.
