Poker Domain Squatters Suck
Written by Roger S | Saturday, December 13th, 2008
Every domain squatter I’ve dealt with are extremely rude, arrogant people. I’m not sure what made them so special but they are blatant jerks when you try to deal with them. Not only that but there is no such thing as a fair price to them. (with exception to one domainer I am currently working with)
“im not realy selling: what’s your price”, is how they usually reply. Note the terrible grammar and one sentence replies. They always say that, I’m not selling “but if the price is right”. I mean wtf, you’ve had the domain for 3 years, have never put a site on it and you’re not selling? Who are they trying to kid.
It’s not just that, most of the domains are mid 5 and up to 6 figures and you get the typical runaround. If the price you offer is not high enough they either don’t respond or they act like you’re some dousche and you can’t afford their domain. Again, usually a one or two word reply is all you’ll get.
Now if they were smart they’d try and negotiate and work out a price that is reasonable. But instead they try and hit the jackpot by ripping some poor chap off. Unless it’s a brandable domain it’s usually up to the buyer to figure out how much the domain is worth. But if it’s a KID (Keyword in Domain) then it’s pretty simple to see what the domain is worth simply by analysizing what the future SERP traffic will be.
Then there’s the people who buy typos of your domain, the .net, .org, and .whateverthefuck in hopes you’ll have to buy it later. They usually put some roar.com landing page on it and let it sit.
I’m not going to name the domain but I offered a guy $30,000 for a domain. The google traffic is measley, probably 2-300 hits a month but it’s a decent enough domain to acquire and build a site around. Per the usual, he’s “kind of interested” but after the offer I get no reply.
What I’m going to do is in about a month offer the guy $250,000 for the domain and blow him off after he accepts to show him how it feels.
So all the domain squatters that meet this criteria, suck it. You’re lazy, rude and suck.
Sometimes people over the internet lose all sense of courtesy. That’s my rant for the week. Oh yeah, I bought a Ferrari today, video’s will be posted next week when it arrives.

Maybe if you were nicer to them they’d sell.

Im a nice guy, some of them just want retarded prices….like $10million for domains most wouldn’t pay the $10 for regular prices.
I actually did have a very cool experience with one of the biggest domainers in the industry this week. It was cool listening to his experiences and he was a great guy.

I don’t have much experience with this yet, but the guys that act like that are like any other that try to get into an industry like this and don’t have a clue what to do. They over value everything and try to bend you over…Sucks too because you probably can utilize that domain name better…
Just wanted to let you know I got your link off of poker affiliate listings and just checked out your blog about your new car….I’M IN AWE….not so much of the car (although I’m not taking anything away from that) but just the fact that you did this from affiliating…I just got into it because I like poker and I’m not afraid of hard work….you are definitly proof that hard work pays off! Thanks!

Thanks for the compliments Matt. You’re right most of them have no clue and don’t know the value of the domains. In the right hands someone could turn a solid domain into a 6-7 figure earner while a lot of squatters couldn’t make a dime off it….unless they sell for an outrageous price having to do no work.
Squatting = laziness if you ask me. If I pay $30,000 for a domain I’ll probably want a couple hundred once it’s developed and ranking because of the work and knowledge that goes into it….

Totally…and you know what you get to enjoy most? Knowing that with a little bit of effort it’s possible the seller could have acheived the same thing…30k into 150-200k with just a bit of time? I don’t know anything about domains either, but I know a good ROI when I see it.
