Poker Tables Delivered to Pennsylvania Casinos

With legislation due to change in Pennsylvania that will allow the state casinos to offer table games such as poker, some of these gambling establishments have already reported that they have taken delivery of the actual gaming tables and are waiting impatiently for July to roll on.
The Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs claims to be first casino in the state to take delivery of table games and says that dozens of blackjack, craps and roulette tables are already poised to be added to its casino floor by the July d-day.
The President and Chief Executive Officer of the casino, Bobby Soper, said that 30 table games had arrived several days ago, and this is due to double by the time the red tape is cut to introduce poker in the state.
“It’s a hallmark,” said Soper. “We have a whole new gaming product being introduced and we’re the first property to get those tables in the state.”
The Mohegan Sun was also the first casino to open after the state gave its okay for these establishments to open six years ago.
All in all, eight Pennsylvania casinos have thus far received a license from the state Gaming Control Board to offer table games alongside their slot machines. The majority are due to open in July, while others slightly later in the fall.
“They’re all aiming within a matter of weeks to be open,” said gaming board spokesman, Doug Harbach.
So do Penn casinos believe that these new poker and table games will affect their revenues by much? It certainly seems to be the case, as it is hard to believe that these casinos would fork out so much money for a license if not. The Mohegan Sun, for example, believes that attendance to the casino should rise by 15%.
“Now you’re going to have individuals who will stay closer to home because you offer both products, and you can recapture those dollars that are leaving every day to places like Atlantic City, NJ,” said Soper.
