PokerNews vs Cardplayer Round 1 Cat Fight

PokerNews vs Cardplayer Round 1 Cat FightLet the squabling begin. Pokernews.com and Cardplayer.com are going at it with majority shareholder of Pokernews, Tony G, calling out Cardplayer for stealing their exclusive WSOP chip count rights.

For those not familiar with how it works every year, Harrahs contracts out one big poker news site to do live reporting, chip counts etc. Well this year PokerNews made negotiations with Bluff (whom bought the rights from Harrahs) to be the only ones allowed to do live chip counts for the Las Vegas WSOP events. Rumors are spreading that Cardplayer is simply scraping the chip counts off PokerNews’s site.

I don’t know how true it is but I’ve heard rumors of Tony G being connected with certain Lithuanian organized crime, if you know what I mean (Hey it’s the poker rumors section right?).

Update: After writing this Cardplayer agreed to stop stealing the chip counts and respectfully back off.  Looks like Tony might have got some people involved to scare them away.

In his blog at PokerNews he says,  ”I am from the street and when you steal from me, you are playing with fire.  I urge the Shulmans (Cardplayer) to think about what they are doing to me now.  They should think about how people feel when they are robbed.”

I think that’s the polite was of saying, you don’t want to F#*& with me?

Most of the rumors started today, christ it’s 1:30am, I mean yesterday when people noticed that when PokerNews updated the chip counts only a few minutes later Cardplayer’s chip counts would update.  Not only are they taking away PokerNew’s right to be the exclusive provider of live updating chips counts but they’re stealing them straight from PokerNews.

Representatives of PokerNews said they paid over 40 people to cover this years World Series of Poker and spent hundreds of thousands of dollars for the rights.  Tony G. says things will most likely end up in a legal battle.  That will be interesting considering the legal landscape of internet poker in the US right now.  I imagine things are more likely to be settled out of court.
