PokerStars Signs Jason Alexander from Seinfield

The celebrities represent PokerStars in both online and live tournaments. Now PokerStars has added another celebrity to the second group – Jason Alexander. PokerStars is one of the largest US poker sites. It has a formidable array of professionals playing under its banner as Team PokerStars Pro. This group includes the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Chris Moneymaker and Vanessa Rousso.

But PokerStars also has a team of celebrity brand ambassadors who are from outside the professional poker community but carry a passion for the game. This list includes hockey player Mats Sundin, former baseball player Orel Hershiser and former tennis ace Boris Becker.

Jason Alexander is a 49 year old American actor whose claim to fame is his essaying the role of George Costanza in the award winning hit television series Seinfeld of the 1990s. Alexander began his acting career on the Broadway stage. Being an accomplished singer and dancer he appeared in many musicals. In fact he has won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for Jerome Robbin’s Broadway. Alexander’s television and film career has been equally illustrious. He has dubbed for Catbert, the evil director of human resources, in the animated version of Dilbert. He did a cameo of a suicidal supply manager in one episode of Friends. Alexander will be remembered for playing the misogynist lawyer in Pretty Woman. In 2007 he acted in the poker film The Grand.

Alexander’s poker resume is not as grand as his acting one, but it has been good enough to interest PokerStars. He has played in the Main Event of the WSOP for the last three years. In 2007 he also played in the $5,000 buy-in Ante Up for Africa Charity Event in which he cashed in 10th place. Alexander has done two seasons of Bravo’s Celebrity Poker Showdown. He won $500,000 for the charity United Way of New Orleans in the 8th Season. Last year he played the NBC Heads-Up Championship wearing a PokerStars shirt and lost in the first round to Huck Seed.

On his being asked to join PokerStars Alexander said, “I am very flattered and happy to be playing for a real quality site and with the kind of professionals that remind me every day how truly mediocre I am at this game. But I’m learning and now I can learn from some of the best.” Alexander will be playing the 2009 WSOP and other live events under the PokerStars banner and playing at their online poker room under the moniker ‘J. Alexander’. The deal with PokerStars was negotiated by Poker Royalty on behalf of Alexander. Poker Royalty represents poker pros like Daniel Negreanu, Erick Lindgren, Phil Hellmuth and Scotty Nguyen. So Alexander is in the right hands.
