PokerStars to Host Poker Tournament in USA

Poker Stars online poker site announced the launch of a brand new poker tournament for the North American continent in the form of the North American Poker Tour (NAPT).

Poker Stars has chosen the lovely model, Joanna Krupa to serve as the tournament’s official on screen host. The lady, who has graced the covers of magazines such as Maxim and Playboy, is a mean poker player in her own right and has appeared on the Million Dollar Challenge.

The first tournament of the North American Poker Tour was the 2010 Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure. A stop is being planned for the tournament at the Venetian in Las Vegas on January 20th, while another one is booked at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Until now, US poker players who wanted to play in Poker Stars backed tournaments needed to head out of their country to show off their skills in events such as the European Poker Tour and the UK and Ireland Poker Tour. The launch of the North American Poker Tour is thus seen as a welcome addition to the local poker scene.

“I’m really looking forward to the launch of the NAPT,” said Poker Stars Pro Team player, Daniel Negreanu in a press release. “PokerStars.net has done an excellent job sponsoring meaningful tournaments around the world with the EPT, LAPT, APPT, and various other local tours – and it’s exciting to see them coming to my home town of Las Vegas! With the addition of the NAPT, I’ll have a chance to play some tournaments on home soil and I’m very excited about that.”

Naturally, this isn’t the first poker tournament to be held in the United States, and the NAPT will be competing with other established events such as the World Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker Circuit. But with the growing popularity of poker in the United States, there is always room for more quality tournaments of this kind and the events should be well attended.
