Prop Bets For WSOP 2009
Written by RogerCP | Sunday, April 5th, 2009
WSOP 2009 opens on the 27th of May and the odds for the prop bets are up at Bodog. The other betting sites will have their offers soon. It is these prop bets that add spice to the proceedings at WSOP for many poker fans because direct action at the tables can get dull after a while. The odds offered at Bodog will keep changing as the betting progresses and reference is being made to the odds currently on offer.
Actually it was Scotty Nguyen who fired the first salvo last week when he told PokerListings that he would retire from poker if he did not win at least $4 million at the WSOP this year. As Wicked Chops Poker pointed out, “…that means Scotty needs to win the $50k H.O.R.S.E. again plus the new $40k NLH event, or finish first or second in the Main Event.” Bodog has taken that up and is offering odds of 25 for Nguyen succeeding. Does this mean that we will not see Nguyen at the tables if he fails to make the $4 million? It simply means that Nguyen will break his promise and continue playing.
The odds for a player winning two or more bracelets are 2.40, which seems within the realms of possibility. Those for a player winning three or more bracelets are 13.00, which is highly unlikely. The odds for a woman winning an open event are 2.40. This speaks volumes for the progress that women have made in the last year. At WSOP 2008 these odds would have been unacceptable. Compared to this the odds for a woman making it to the final table of the Main Event are 5.00 and of winning the Main Event are 19.00. What this means is it is more likely that a woman will win the Main Event than Nguyen winning $4 million.
One of the favorite sections with bettors is the bracelet tally. The odds for Phil Hellmuth getting his 12th bracelet are 4.00. The odds for Doyle Brunson winning his 11th bracelet are 11.00 and the odds for Johnny Chan winning his 11th bracelet are also 11.00. Another favorite prop bet is that of the last player standing.
Nguyen is the favorite for the $50k H.O.R.S.E. Event, which he won last year after a display of pathetic behavior at the tables, with odds of 6.00. He is closely followed by Freddy Deeb, David Williams and Justin Bonomo with odds of 6.50. The favorites for the Main Event are Phil Ivey with odds of 6.00 and Daniel Negreanu with odds of 6.50. Jennifer Harman and Kathy Liebert are the favorites for the last woman standing for the Main Event with odds of 6.00. There is a long list of female pros with odds of 8.00. This includes Annie Duke, Cindy Violette, Isabella Mercier, Clonie Gowen, Evelyn Ng, Liz Lieu, Mimi Tran, Katja Thater and Vanessa Rousso.
